Shymkent Mall is located 5 km northeast of the city centre, at the heart of a new 364 hectare masterplan. The masterplan will become the new administrative and business centre of the city, complete with a new mosque. Shymkent's rapidly growing young population is largely due to migration from rural areas, making it an important urban centre. In addition to the typical anchor stores, food court and multiplex cinema, the mall includes a huge atrium space for public events, and the region's first aquarium educational centre.
Inspired by the vast wingspan of the golden eagle – Kazakhstan's national animal – the roof of the mall floats gracefully over 42,000 m² of leasable space and allows light and shade to the public and circulation spaces.
