Alter, a 7-storey block of serviced apartments, has been carefully inserted in a narrow infill site in Neos Kosmos, Athens. The stepped vertical boxes that demarcate the façade follow the datum of adjacent buildings, whilst the stretching and stepping of the independent volumes gives each apartment its own unique identity.
The emphatic contrast between the white box outlines and dark secondary façade and slabs serves to highlight the hierarchical play between positive and negative space as the building grows and steps back from street level.
